Dear The Rivers Secondary College Learning Community,
I am delighted and honoured to introduce myself as your Relieving Executive Principal for the 2024 academic year. It is with great enthusiasm that I embark on this journey alongside such a vibrant and dedicated community of learners, educators and families. It was fantastic last night to meet some of our community at the Campus Open Evenings for year 5 and 6 students and experience the vibrancy of our college in action.
Executive Principal, Chris Randle has been called up to lend his expertise to the Murwillumbah schools this year. In his absence I will be stepping in to fulfil his role and ensure continuity of equity, excellence and engagement here at The Rivers Secondary College.
Though I am new to the Northern Rivers, my roots in the NSW Public Education system run deep, having proudly graduated from it myself. With over two decades of experience as a teacher and educational leader, I bring with me a strong commitment to fostering opportunities and growing equity and inclusion through education. My professional journey has taken me across various regions of our beautiful state, from the bustling metropolis of Gadigal Land in Sydney to the thundering waterfalls of Anaiwan and Gumbaynggiir Country in the New England.
Reflecting on my own educational journey, I am indebted to the teachers who inspired me and opened doors to possibilities beyond my imagination. It is this spirit of empowerment and belief in the potential of every student that drives my passion for education. I am deeply aligned with The Rivers Secondary College’s purpose of “Working together to ensure that every student is safe, supported and successful with a bright future.”
My professional background encompasses diverse experiences, including leadership roles in middle schooling, curriculum and the performing arts. Yet, at the heart of it all, what matters most, is children and young people. As an advocate for growth mindset and personalised learning pathways, I am committed to fostering an environment where every individual can thrive and realise their fullest potential.
Beyond my professional endeavours, I am also a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother to a 3 year old mighty girl, intimately familiar with the joys and challenges of navigating the educational journey from various perspectives. I firmly believe that education can adapt to meet the needs of each learner and I am dedicated to collaborating with you all to ensure The Rivers remains a beacon of excellence and inclusivity, the heart of secondary education in Lismore.
I am incredibly excited to embark on this journey with you all. Together, let us continue to create a future where every students’ dreams are nurtured and realised.
Kind Regards
Bree Harvey-Bice
